International Margarita Day – Yay!

international margarita day - glass of classic margarita

Stop the press… It’s International Margarita Day!!!

With its own glass, day (officially 22nd February,  but any day will do) and dozens of stories about the origin, this lime libation is balanced cocktail perfection. With many variations of the original recipe cleverly crafted by bartenders around the world, we wanted to share some of our favourites at HEL’s H.Q.

Classic Margarita

Do not, we repeat, do not use a pre-made margarita mix. It is too sweet and will make your margarita taste like heartburn and regret.

  • 60ml White Tequila
  • 30ml Cointreau or triple sec
  • 30ml Fresh lime juice

  • Wipe the rim of the glass with a lime wedge and dip the glass edge in salt
  • Fill your cocktail shaker with ice
  • Pour all ingredients in and shake it like you mean it
  • Strain into your glass and enjoy!

Tommy’s Margarita

Created in the 1990’s by Julio Bermejo. It is named after his family’s Mexican restaurant in San Francisco, which was set up in 1965 and is still running today (seriously, you have to go if you are ever in the area!). It also stocks one of the largest ranges of 100% agave spirits in the USA. Hello!

  • 60ml 100% agave tequila reposado
  • 30ml Fresh lime juice
  • 15ml Agave syrup

  • Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a tumbler
  • Serve on the rocks with a lime wedge.
  • There’s no salt on the rim with a Tommy’s

Frozen Mango Margarita

Fruity, spicy and refreshing… What’s not to love?

  • 60ml tequila reposado
  • 45ml Fresh lime juice
  • 45ml Mango purée
  • 1 cup of ice

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender and wiz until smooth like a sorbet.
  • Serve with a spicy rim mixture of salt, sugar, chilli powder, and a teeny pinch of cayenne pepper – Yum!
